Welcome

About Maddie Heid

My name is Maddie Heid, and I was born and raised in California. I'm an eco-addict, a traveler, and an avid reader. For as long as I can remember, I've loved to read and write. I carried these two passions to the College of Charleston, where I earned my bachelor's degree in communication and a minor in creative writing.

I still live in Charleston where I spend my time surfing, freelance writing, and exploring the culinary scene.

My Blog

Mountain To Plate

During the lockdown, I became focused on changing my diet to benefit my physical and mental health. This combined with my love for the environment inspired my blog where I discuss how what we eat affects climate change!

Why I became a vegetarian

Since I'm focusing my senior project on animal production's negative effects, it felt wrong for me to continue eating meat. This blog post explores the benefits of becoming vegetarian and discovering how easy it really is!

Changing The Climate Change Narrative

Environmental organizations are always discussing ways to decrease our carbon footprint, take shorter showers, carpool to work, and use reusable utensils. But did you know the leading factor of climate change is animal production? I didn't either, so let's talk about it.

My Health Journey

During the pandemic, I went back to my home in California for six months. It was a challenging time not knowing when I would see my friends again and, even worse, not knowing if I would return to the College of Charleston. Although I was down in the dumps for a while, I decided to be productive by focusing on my health and completely changing the way I eat.

Poetry

Growing up, I always used to express myself through poetry. In college, I minored in creative writing which gave me the opportunity to polish my work, develop multiple portfolios and put together my own published poetry book!
